Kids Food Basket

The 2nd graders are excited about our new reading unit! We have started informational books and talked about how we can read about the world God created and learn about his world, the people from our past, and those in other parts of the world. We have discussed how we are Wisdom Seekers and can find wisdom and knowledge about God in reading. We had a good trip to Kids Food Basket! They really appreciated our donations and said they came at a great time for some of the needs they have in the next few weeks! Way to help support our community!! Pictures at the end of the blog.

Homework:

*Current reading and math slips are due Mar. 11.

*On Monday, a new reading slip and math page will come home, and they will be due Mar. 18.

*Practice the words from set 4 as we will have a quiz on the 15th!

*Keep practicing Bible Memory- Matthew 28:1-10. Beautiful passage about the Easter story!

WORDS OF THE WEEK:

Thanks for helping your child practice their words at home: while, themselves, without, probably, yourself, near, everything, wouldn't, need, kind, different, myself, everyone, few, begin. We will be having a test on Mar. 15.

Jungle Explorer:
Brooks was our special Jungle Explorer of the Week! Thanks for sharing your poster and pictures with the class. We enjoyed getting to know more about you! We learned that you like to do all sports, and are good at baseball and soccer. Your favorite food is pizza. Your favorite place is Florida and you want to work at a ski resort when you grow up! You are so special to God and to us, Brooks, and we loved getting to know more about you this week!

SPRING CONFERENCES:
Conferences will be coming up at the end of March (March 21 & 25 from 4-8pm). 2nd grade takes a different twist on conferences in the Spring--they are actually STUDENT LED. This means that your son/daughter joins us in conversation, and he/she leads the conference. We work hard at creating a portfolio and collecting work samples, and it is an awesome experience for you to see how your child has taken ownership of his/her learning this year. This means that all 2nd grade conferences are in person. As teachers and parents, we are able to encourage and pour into your child, as well as find ways to challenge him/her for the last quarter of 2nd grade. This is a very important time together, and you'll want to save the date. Look for a link for sign ups!
I have a family event that is conflicting with conferences for Thursday night. Looking at my schedule there are still lots of slots open, but if for some reason you are having a very difficult time making something work please email me and I will work something out to get together. I apologize for the inconvenience!!

Hi Everyone,

Here is the blurb you can use for your blogs if you want to. This is what I think we put together last year.

Reading Rally Week-  Our South Side Staff is eager to celebrate our growing readers!! To celebrate March is Reading Month, the staff has put together a special week (March 25 - March 28) to promote our growing readers. Here are the details and ways in which you can assist your child for our special days:

  • Monday, March 25 - FAVORITE BOOK DAY: Bring your favorite book to school. The children will be making a book cover of their favorite book and then displaying it on their locker.

  • Tuesday, March 26 - BEACH DAY - Bring in your beach towel and dress for a day at the beach. Shorts, Short sleeve shirts, and sunglasses or sun hats. (No swimsuits, please.)

  • Wednesday, March 27 - READ A T-SHIRT DAY - Please help your child find a t-shirt that has one or several words on it so that we can read each other's t-shirts.

  • Thursday, March 28 - COZY DAY - Wear your pajamas and bring a blanket and stuffed animal.

Thank you for encouraging your child to build his/her reading skills by reading each and every night! This time practicing now will have life-long benefits! Thank you!!

South Side Story Walk
We are partnering with the Herrick District Library to host a Story walk this month for March is Reading. We would love to use this as an opportunity to invite the community onto South Side's property to enjoy a story read by Kirk Cousins. Please come check out the Story Walk with your family and even invite your neighbors to join you! If you do come and visit take some photos & tag Holland Christian in them on Social Media so we can continue to spread the word about this community event!

Tulip Time:

As signs of spring are appearing, we are looking ahead to Tulip Time! Students at Pine Ridge and South Side (grades 1-4) will be marching with our school. Students have two options of groups to participate in. Please fill out this survey and let us know which section your child will be participating in.

Please make sure you fill out one form for each 1st-4th grade student you have by Monday, March 25th so we can ensure we have the correct props for the parade. If you have any questions, please email Christy

Swimming Lessons:
South Side and other HC schools will be participating in swimming lessons this year at the Aquatic Center. Our lessons will be during the dates of March 18-28.

Showtime! Songs from Stage and Screen on March 15 & 16 @ 7 pm
Join us for Living Hope Showcase 2024 at the HCHS Auditorium on Friday, March 15, and Saturday, March 16. You won’t want to miss this fun performance of music from Broadway, the movies, and television. Swinging the Night Away
The Holland Christian Jazz Bands and the Old Timer’s Jazz Band are proud to present the Swingin’ the Night Away in the HCHS cafeteria on Friday, March 22, from 6:45 to 9 pm. Admission is $5, and goes to support the music program at HCHS. New to swing dancing? No worries!
