February is flying by! We have had lots of fun learning opportunities this month and it's been a joy to learn together! We have started our Lent devotions and preparing our hearts for the time of Jesus' death and resurrection. We have had some good discussions together and the kids have asked great questions! Their love of learning more about their savior is wonderful!

Kids Food Basket:

School is collecting for Kids Food Basket and our class is collecting fruit cups. We will be collecting through Mar. 1. Please send in donations yet next week and let's bring in lots of items so we can bless our Holland community!

Reading Blizzard:
The 2nd graders love to celebrate reading! One way that we will do that this year is by having a "READING BLIZZARD" during the school day on Thursday, February 29 . The students will come to school in their pajamas, and they may also bring a pillow, blanket, and a stuffed animal. We will spend a large part of the day reading, hearing stories from a special guest, enjoying pizza together, and doing a variety of other fun reading/blizzard themed things!

SPRING CONFERENCES: 

Conferences will be coming up at the end of March (March 21 & 25 from 4-8pm). 2nd grade takes a different twist on conferences in the Spring--they are actually STUDENT LED. This means that your son/daughter joins us in conversation, and he/she leads the conference. We work hard at creating a portfolio and collecting work samples, and it is an awesome experience for you to see how your child has taken ownership of his/her learning this year. This means that all 2nd grade conferences are in person. As teachers and parents, we are able to encourage and pour into your child, as well as find ways to challenge him/her for the last quarter of 2nd grade. This is a very important time together, and you'll want to save the date. Look for a link to be coming soon for sign ups!

South Side and other HC schools will be participating in swimming lessons this year at the Aquatic Center. Our lessons will be during the dates of March 18-28.

We had a fun week in 2nd grade! We had a Valentine's Party and a great field trip to the ODC!  What great days to share with our friends and classmates in 2nd grade! We have so much to be thankful for and the goodness and love God showers on us is amazing! God's faithfulness is evident each and every day! It's such a blessing to see the kids grow in their faith each day and know they love Jesus! Thank you for your faithfulness in making Christian education a priority for your family! It is an honor to
teach your son/daughter each day!

100 Days!

 

God is good! All the time! We celebrated 100 days of school this week and had a fun time! We ate our cereal together, had devotions and looked back on God's goodness, and then celebrated with a variety of fun activities. The students looked fabulous dressed as 100 year olds! What a blessing to be together! Enjoy a few pics from our celebration throughout the blog!  The students were really creative with our STEM stations and made many things out of the materials provided. They made drones, skyscrapers, castles, old house, and Mrs. Dreyer's name!

Jungle Explorer of the Week: 

Lincoln was our special Jungle Explorer of the Week! Thanks for sharing your poster and pictures with the class. We enjoyed getting to know more about you! We learned that you love to play soccer.  Your favorite food is pizza. Your favorite place is Florida, and you want to be a firefighter when you grow up! You are so special to God and to us, Lincoln, and we loved getting to know more about you this week!

Valentine's Day:

We will have a small party in our classroom on Feb. 14. If you are getting an early start on those valentines their was a class list in your child's homework on Monday the 29th. Thanks so much to the parents who have signed up to help with a snack and drink for the class!!

Field Trip:

Our class is heading to the ODC on Feb. 13. We will be there from 9:30-1:30. Your child will need to dress for the weather and will need a home lunch that day. They have some great winter activities planned for us!

Wow...next week we will be celebrating 10 days of God's goodness and faithfulness together! It's going to be a very fun day, and we will be sure to take some time to reflect back on how GOOD our Heavenly Father has been to us through out the year! Thanks for being active prayer partners of our classroom, and for supporting us in the many ways you do!

Jungle Explorer:

Hannah was our special Jungle Explorer of the Week! Thanks for sharing your poster and pictures with our class. We enjoyed getting to know you and learning that you love to read, swim, draw, and do crafts. Your favorite place is the Aquatic Center, and your favorite food is mac 'n cheese! We love that you want to be a marine biologist when you grow up! You are so special to God and to us, Hannah, and we loved getting to know more about you this week!

100TH DAY OF SCHOOL:

Wednesday, February 7 will be our 100th day of school! Where has the time gone? We are looking forward to celebrating 100 days of God's faithfulness together! We have lots of fun activities planned, and one of them is dressing like we are 100 years old! (No wheelchairs or walkers though, our classroom just isn't big enough!) Don't feel like you need to go buy things...just get creative with this! We wanted to give you a heads up so you can start raiding your Grandma's closets for some fun ideas!

CEREAL: 

Another thing we need you to have your child do is count out 100 pieces of their favorite cereal and bring it in a baggie with your child's name on it by Friday, February 2. We'll provide the bowls, milk and spoons and we'll be having a hundred's day breakfast together on our special day! Your child might need to eat a little at home too--100 pieces is not as much as you'd think! :) If you didn't send the cereal in yet please do so ASAP.

Valentine's Day:

WACKY WEDNESDAYS: 

We'll have some fun themed Wednesdays coming up in January/February to spice up these wintery days.

Currently Feb 7 will be our 100th day of school! We like to celebrate this BIG, so at South Side and Pine Ridge we are switching up the last Wacky Wednesday. Feb 7 will now be "Wear Numbers Day!" Find clothing with numbers on it and wear it to school and we will see if we can name all the numbers, not just 100. 2nd graders at South Side will still plan on dressing up as if they are 100 years old.

Share the Love

The Maroon and White Shop will be hosting the first annual "Share The Love" Shopping Event on Wednesday, February 7 from 8am - 5pm.  Come shop for the latest HC gear at the High School and 10% of all sales will go to Compassionate Heart in Zeeland.  The first 25 customers to make a purchase will receive a complimentary gift and our "Cool Beans" Coffee Cart will be serving complimentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate and refreshments!  It's an event you won't want to miss!
