Happy Friday! How are we in the final stretch of school, approaching our last 12 days together? We still have lots of fun things to pack into our time together. God is SO good--we have SO much to celebrate! We have lots of fun end of year things going on in the next couple of weeks! Had a great time at Field Day! What beautiful weather! Homework:
Math and Reading slips are done for the year!
We will have a test on our last 15 words next week Thursday May 22!
MOVIN' UP DAY:Monday, June 2 will be a special day in 2nd grade. It's MOVING UP DAY! This means that your child will get an opportunity to visit Pine Ridge, meet next year's 3rd grade teacher, and go on a school tour. This has always been a great experience in the past, and it helps settle the nervous butterflies that students may have about the changes to a new building. I'm sure you'll hear lots of great stories about the students' visit!
End of Year Field Trip:
Our class will be going to Windmill Island and Dutch Village as a part of our Social Studies Unit on Holland history and as our end of year field trip. We will head to Windmill Island first and explore, then head to Dutch Village for a tour, Dutch dancing, and some free time in the park. Students should wear good walking shoes and dress for the weather. Students will need a sack/home lunch as well. I have enough parents for our field trip! Thanks to those who signed up to go along! If you signed up to go along please turn in your money ASAP!
Beach Day:
1st graders and 2nd graders are going to be gathering together at Tunnel park on Friday, May 30. Your child will need a sack lunch and a beach bucket for sand castle making for this day. We are planning to stop at Captain Sundae on the way back. (I'm so excited for this!). The kids can choose between chocolate, vanilla, or twist soft serve in a cup. I will mark down their choice here at school. It costs $2.70. Please send this money to school by Friday, May 16.
Sassafras Ridge:
1st and 2nd grade will be heading to Sassafras Ridge for the last time this year! We will heading out there to take in God's creation and have some fun learning. We will be there over our lunch time so students will need a sack/home lunch that day!
End of the Year Chapel
Save the date! We will have a special end of the year Chapel to send off our 2nd graders on the last day of school, Wednesday, June 4. Come gather with us from 10:25-11:15am for a time of worship together. We’ll be out on the playground, so bring a lawn chair if you’d like (if there’s rain we’ll move it to the gym). After chapel, Preschool students will be dismissed, and K-2 students will have a quick 15 minutes to close out the year in the classrooms with their teacher, and their dismissal will follow at 11:30am.
Miss Soderman's Last Day:
On May 27 it will be Miss Soderman's last day. We will have a small party and say goodbye to her. If your child would like to make a special card for her they are welcome to make one at home and take it to school. I can hide it until that day if they want to bring it in earlier. :)
Lost and Found
The office is continuing to update our South Side Lost and Found Album as items come into the gray tub in the office. Please check it out to see if any of these items belong to your child. Feel free to email Rachel Steen, to claim your item(s), and we will be sure to get it into your child's backpack.
Library notice:
The week of May 5-9 is the last week for students to borrow books from the Library.
All student library materials are due by May 16.
