Reading Blizzard

It's been a great week in second grade! We have enjoyed the changes in the weather and there was lots of excitement for recesses that allowed them "no coats"! We even learned outside and had lunch outside on Tuesday! Amazing! The sun has been a wonderful addition to our days! We had a fabulous time with our Reading Blizzard! We enjoyed lots of fun things and read a lot of books! Look for pictures throughout the blog. Thanks so much for letting me be a part of your child's life each day. It is a joy seeing them grow and change, and I find it hard to believe we are almost three fourths of the way through the year!

Homework:

*Current reading and math slips are due Mar. 4.

*On Monday, a new reading slip and math page will come home, and they will be due Mar. 11.

*Blue half slip with our words of the week.

* New Bible Memory for March will be coming home. It is Matthew 28:1-10.

WORDS OF THE WEEK:

Thanks for helping your child practice their words at home: while, themselves, without, probably, yourself, near, everything, wouldn't, need, kind, different, myself. Look for a blue half slip with these words: everyone, few, begin, coming home in your child's Homework Folder. We will be having a test on Mar. 15.

Jungle Explorer:
Maximillian was our special Jungle Explorer of the Week! Thanks for sharing your poster and pictures with the class. We enjoyed getting to know more about you! We learned that you like to do acting, travel, building, and whistling. Your favorite food is pizza. Your favorite place is Great Wolf Lodge and you want to be a firefighter when you grow up! You are so special to God and to us, Maximillian, and we loved getting to know more about you this week!
SPRING CONFERENCES:
Conferences will be coming up at the end of March (March 21 & 25 from 4-8pm). 2nd grade takes a different twist on conferences in the Spring--they are actually STUDENT LED. This means that your son/daughter joins us in conversation, and he/she leads the conference. We work hard at creating a portfolio and collecting work samples, and it is an awesome experience for you to see how your child has taken ownership of his/her learning this year. This means that all 2nd grade conferences are in person. As teachers and parents, we are able to encourage and pour into your child, as well as find ways to challenge him/her for the last quarter of 2nd grade. This is a very important time together, and you'll want to save the date. Look for a link for sign ups! I have a family event that is conflicting with conferences for Thursday night. Looking at my schedule there are still lots of slots open, but if for some reason you are having a very difficult time making something work please email me and I will work something out to get together. I apologize for the inconvenience!!

Tulip Time:

As signs of spring are appearing, we are looking ahead to Tulip Time! Students at Pine Ridge and South Side (grades 1-4) will be marching with our school. Students have two options of groups to participate in. Please fill out this survey and let us know which section your child will be participating in.

Please make sure you fill out one form for each 1st-4th grade student you have by Monday, March 25th so we can ensure we have the correct props for the parade. If you have any questions, please email Christy

Swimming Lessons:
South Side and other HC schools will be participating in swimming lessons this year at the Aquatic Center. Our lessons will be during the dates of March 18-28.

Showtime! Songs from Stage and Screen on March 15 & 16 @ 7 pm
Join us for Living Hope Showcase 2024 at the HCHS Auditorium on Friday, March 15, and Saturday, March 16. You won’t want to miss this fun performance of music from Broadway, the movies, and television. Tickets are $10 each at hollandchristian.org/lhshowcase and $1 of every ticket will benefit Upward Bound Ministries.
