Swimming!
What a great week! We have continued our Holy Week stories and the kids have taken to heart what Jesus has been teaching and preparing disciples for, His death and resurrection. Our meaningful conversations show the love and growth the students have for Jesus! The students are doing a great job in swimming! They are getting to be stronger swimmers each day! Check out the pictures at the end of the blog!
Remember parents may come the last 2 days of swimming to watch. Those days will be Mar. 27 and 28!
Homework:
*Current reading and math pages are due Monday, March 18.
No Homework next week. Continue to read and memorize Matthew 28 as we will celebrate Easter over Spring Break.
We will start up again after break!
Conferences:
I am looking forward to a special conference time with you AND your child! Remember, that these conferences are STUDENT LED and your child must come with you. The students have worked hard in preparation for this night! Be sure encourage them before and after the conference and acknowledge their hard work!
This is such an awesome time of celebrating the 2nd grade growth that we've seen, and also coming together to challenge your child in the last few months of 2nd grade. One question your child will ask you at conferences will be, "Mom & Dad, what do you think I'm good at?" Think about this ahead of time, and come ready with a mental list of some of the ways that you want to encourage your child in the special way God has created him/her to be!
Reading Rally Week- Our South Side Staff is eager to celebrate our growing readers!! To celebrate March is Reading Month, the staff has put together a special week (March 25 - March 28) to promote our growing readers. Here are the details and ways in which you can assist your child for our special days:
Monday, March 25 - FAVORITE BOOK DAY: Bring your favorite book to school. The children will be making a book cover of their favorite book and then displaying it on their locker.
Tuesday, March 26 - BEACH DAY - Bring in your beach towel and dress for a day at the beach. Shorts, Short sleeve shirts, and sunglasses or sun hats. (No swimsuits, please.)
Wednesday, March 27 - READ A T-SHIRT DAY - Please help your child find a t-shirt that has one or several words on it so that we can read each other's t-shirts.
Thursday, March 28 - COZY DAY - Wear your pajamas and bring a blanket and stuffed animal.
Thank you for encouraging your child to build his/her reading skills by reading each and every night! This time practicing now will have life-long benefits! Thank you!!

Watch for a letter coming home next week in your child's Friday Folder with some information about our upcoming Social Studies Event- Kid Town!
South Side Story Walk
We will be leaving the Story Walk up through spring break for you and the community to enjoy! Come check it out if you haven't already and invite someone to join you! We are partnering with the Herrick District Library to host a Story walk for March is Reading Month. We would love to use this as an opportunity to invite the community onto South Side's property to enjoy a story read by Kirk Cousins. Please come check out the Story Walk with your family and even invite your neighbors to join you! If you do come and visit take some photos & tag Holland Christian in them on Social Media so we can continue to spread the word about this community event!
As signs of spring are appearing, we are looking ahead to Tulip Time! Students at Pine Ridge and South Side (grades 1-4) will be marching with our school. Students have two options of groups to participate in. Please fill out this survey and let us know which section your child will be participating in.
Please make sure you fill out one form for each 1st-4th grade student you have by Monday, March 25th so we can ensure we have the correct props for the parade. If you have any questions, please email Christy.
The office is continuing to update our South Side Lost and Found Album as items come into the gray tub in the office. Please check it out to see if any of these items belong to your child. Feel free to email Rachel Steen, to claim your item(s), and we will be sure to get it into your child's backpack.
- Students and/or their grown-ups keep track of reading minutes in March.
- Those who participate are eligible for 2 free tickets to select WhiteCaps home games.
