National Day of Prayer

A great week in 2nd grade! We got back into our regular routine after all the Kid Town work. Thanks again so much to those who came in and helped out!! It makes a huge difference and makes things run smoothly! We got together with Miss Hoeze's  first
graders performed their chick plays for us! The 2nd graders really enjoyed seeing the plays they did last year and had fun seeing the new born chicks at school!

National Day of Prayer:

On Thursday we gathered as PK-2 classes to pray for our nation and our school! What a blessing to have the freedom to pray and gather in worship! Continue to pray for our leaders and that they may seek God's wisdom in all their decisions.

Homework:

New reading slips and math pages are coming home on May 6. They will be due Monday, May 13. Math homework is more practice with double digit addition/subtraction.

* New Bible Memory will come home in the Homework Folder Monday!

Test on May 10 of our last set of 15 words. Please practice the ones your child doesn't know!

-If you have extra time around the house some great things to practice are: Writing numbers up to 100 (watch for letter/number reversals!), double digit addition/subtraction problems, names of coins and amounts, and counting piles of spare change!

Words of the Week:

Our words from our final set were: really, understand, question, against, old, happen, several, someone, slowly, better, follow, since, answer, plan, wanted.

We will have a test on all 15 words on May 10!

Paw Paw Park Field Trip:

Our class along with the other 2nd grade classes in the district are learning about being a good citizen and how 2nd graders can make a difference by helping their community and being good stewards of God's creation. We will be heading to Paw Paw Park to help remove invasive plant species from the park premises. These species can cause damage and disturb the natural plant species in Michigan. We will be there working for about an hour along with taking a hike. Students will need to wear long pants and have closed toe shoes for the trip. We will be going the morning of May 21.

Shoe Boxes Needed:

All students will need a shoe box for our end of unit project in reading/writing. We will be using the information we put in our information books to show what we learned by making a diorama. Please have your child bring his/her shoe box to school by Thursday, May, 9! If your child would like to bring in some items from home to make their diorama they may. PLEASE do not go and buy anything!

LIBRARY BOOKS:
Monday, May 6 is our last day to checkout for books in the Library. We will still spend time in the Library, but will not have checkout time. All books are due by Monday, May 13.

MOVIN' UP DAY:
Movin' Up Day is a special day for 2nd graders...they get an opportunity to visit Pine Ridge, take a tour, peek into the third grade classrooms, and settle any anxious thoughts they may have about moving to a new school next year. Our time to head over and check things out will be the morning of Thursday, June 4. I'm sure you'll hear lots of great stories about the students' visit!

Tulip Time

Wednesday, May 8 will be a full day for all students due to Tulip Time removing the Wednesday parade. On Thursday, May 9, our 1st and 2nd graders will participate in the Tulip Time Kinderparade. We will have a normal school schedule in the morning. Preschoolers will be dismissed at their normal time (11:15am) with no afternoon enrichment. Kindergarteners will be dismissed at 11:30am. All Kindergarten students will need to use carpool that day, as all buses are being used for getting students to the parade. First and second graders will remain at school, eat a sack lunch from home (hot lunch is NOT provided), have recess, change into their marching apparel (if they choose not to wear it to school that day), and be bussed to the parade route. Please put sunscreen on your child if they are prone to burning as we are out in the sun for a while that afternoon!

End of year Field Trip:

The 2nd graders will be heading to the Cappon House and Settlers House, Windmill Island, and a park for lunch on June 3. We will need 3 chaperones for our trip if you are able to join us for the fun! Please sign up below if you can make it!
