First Full Week


It's been such a joy this week to watch the students dig deeper into some of the Old Testament Bible stories and they have loved making connections of how God used these events in each person's life to keep his covenant with his people. 

Homework:

 Homework Folders will come home again on Monday, Sept. 15,  and the work inside will be due the following Monday, Sept. 22. 

Reminder- 100 minutes for Reading. This can be your child reading on his/her own OR you and your child taking turns.  
Math papers- time each half and see how many correct.  The goal is to get faster at our facts each time.
Next 3 words of the week on the blue half slip.

Friday Folders come back to school on Monday!
Keep practicing Psalm 8, we have been learning the first 4 verses at school.

Jungle Explorer of the Week:
Audrey was our Jungle Explorer of the Week! Thanks for sharing your poster and pictures with the class. We enjoyed getting to know more about you! We learned that you like gymnastics and math. Your favorite food is peaches. Your favorite place is Wisconsin and you want to be a doctor when you grow up! You are so special to God and to us, Audrey, and we loved getting to know more about you this week!

SCHOOL PICTURES:
*Picture order forms came home on Wednesday, Sept. 10, they are due by Monday, Sept 15. If you have multiple kiddos at HC, be sure to keep track of the pre-printed names on the order forms. Picture Day will be Wednesday, Sept. 17. IF YOU WANT A YEARBOOK, NOW IS THE PERFECT TIME TO ORDER IT! We need you to return the picture order forms even if you aren't ordering anything, and even if you are ordering online, as our photo company needs the paperwork for each student. Thanks!

Book Orders:
Last week In your child's Friday Folder a Scholastic Book Order Flyer came home. Lots of fun books in this flyer and more online! Orders are due Sept. 19!

Pastor Appreciation Breakfast - Thursday, September 18, 7:30 - 8:30 am 
Invite your pastor to our upcoming event! This event is our way of saying thank you for the incredible impact they have on the lives of our students and their families. Invitations can be picked up in the office. 

Field Trip:
We will be heading to the ODC on Sept. 15 to learn about how seeds travel and will visit some animals. Students will need a lunch from home as we will be there all day. Please dress for the weather as we will go rain or shine!

Author Visit:
We are having a fun author visit on Sept. 22 from Laura Sassi! She will read to the students at South Side and sign books for the kids! 

Walkathon:

What is Walkathon? Walkathon is an HC-wide fundraiser where elementary students walk to raise money for their school. The funds raised by South Side students go directly to South Side needs. These needs include classroom supplies, educational outings, and other resources. Parents are welcome to watch the event from the bleachers, while the track is reserved for teachers and students.

Lost and Found
The office is continuing to update our South Side Lost and Found Album as items come into the gray tub in the office. Please check it out to see if any of these items belong to your child. Feel free to email Rachel Steen, to claim your item(s), and we will be sure to get it into your child’s backpack.

Thank you!  I am so thankful for your love and support during this year! Your encouragement has blessed me so much...thank you. Thanks too, for entrusting your children under my care...they have been a joy to teach! This will be the last blog update for the school year! I might just post some end of the year pictures on the last day! We had fun at the beach today, check out some pictures at the end of the blog.  End of the Year Chapel Save the date! We will have a special end of the year Chapel to send off our 2nd graders on the last day of school, Wednesday, June 4. Come gather with us from 10:25-11:15am for a time of worship together. We’ll be out on the playground, so bring a lawn chair if you’d like (if there’s rain we’ll move it to the gym).  After chapel, Preschool students will be dismissed, and K-2 students will have a quick 15 minutes to close out the year in the classrooms with their teacher, and their dismissal will follow at 11:30am. Kid Town in the Gym

Happy Friday! What a fantastic week we have had in second grade! Kid Town has been a success and the students have enjoyed it immensely! We have seen wonderful examples of generous spirits and students who are polite and caring business boys/girls, and they have also been wonderful shoppers with a lot of patience. They have had a ton of fun learning about businesses and economics! Thanks so much to all the parent helpers who came in and were a banker so kids could get paid, glued items together, helped with ideas, ran stores, and helped us pack things up!! What a great week in 2nd grade! We have been working hard on our Conference packets and getting ready for meeting with our parents. What a blessing to see the students grow this year and it was so fun to see them share in the celebration of learning! Homework: Monday, March 24  a new reading slip and math homework page will come home and be due- March 31.  *Matthew 28.
