Lots of hard work this week! We had a little more work this week because of the snow days last week. We are wrapping up some units in Math and Writing and are looking forward to continuing to move ahead in our learning!


HOMEWORK:

New homework will be sent home on Monday, Feb. 2 and due back the 9th. We will be switching to Subtraction Facts for our Math Homework on Monday.
Psalm 121 is being sent home Monday. Please use for devotions this month.
*New words of the week will be coming home in the Homework Folder on Monday. 
*Make sure ALL library books come back next week please!

Jungle Explorer:

Annie was our special Jungle Explorer of the Week! Thanks for sharing your poster and pictures with our class. We enjoyed getting to know you and learning that you like coloring, making bracelets, and art. We love that you want to be a artist when you grow up! Your favorite place is California and your favorite food is pizza. You are so special to God and to us, Annie, and we loved getting to know more about you this week!





100TH DAY OF SCHOOL:

Friday, February, 6 (if we have no snow days) will be our 100th day of school! Where has the time gone? We are looking forward to celebrating 100 days of God's faithfulness together! We have lots of fun activities planned, and one of them is dressing like we are 100 years old! (No wheelchairs or walkers though, our classroom just isn't big enough!) Don't feel like you need to go buy things...just get creative with this! I wanted to give you a heads up so you can start raiding your Grandma's closets for some fun ideas!


CEREAL: 

Another thing we need you to have your child do is count out 100 pieces of their favorite cereal and bring it in a baggie with your child's name on it by Monday, February 2. I'll provide the bowls, milk and spoons and we'll be having a hundred's day breakfast together on our special day! Your child might need to eat a little at home too--100 pieces is not as much as you'd think! :)


Hearing and Vision

The Allegan County Health Department will be doing hearing and vision screenings on February 2-5. Please be sure to have your student wear their glasses or contacts if they have them. 
If you would like to opt your student out for the screening please let the office know by Monday morning. 


Valentine's Day:

We will have a small party in our classroom on Feb. 12. If you are getting an early start on those valentines there is a class list coming home in your child's Friday folder. Wacky Wednesdays
The Parent Board has some fun Wacky Wednesdays planned to spruce up our winter Wednesdays at South Side and Pine Ridge! Here is the schedule:

  • February 4: Pajama Day
  • February 11: Sports Day (Clothing and hats only; no equipment please)
  • February 18: Hawaiian Day 
  • February 25: Backwards Day 

The Winning Class for each week (highest % participation) will win a voucher for a hot chocolate party on a date that works for the class.

Lost and Found

The office is continuing to update our South Side Lost and Found Album as items come into the gray tub in the office. Please check it out to see if any of these items belong to your child. Feel free to email Rachel Steen, to claim your item(s), and we will be sure to get it into your child’s backpack.

Thank you!  I am so thankful for your love and support during this year! Your encouragement has blessed me so much...thank you. Kid Town in the Gym

Happy Friday! What a fantastic week we have had in second grade! Kid Town has been a success and the students have enjoyed it immensely! We have seen wonderful examples of generous spirits and students who are polite and caring business boys/girls, and they have also been wonderful shoppers with a lot of patience. They have had a ton of fun learning about businesses and economics! Thanks so much to all the parent helpers who came in and were a banker so kids could get paid, glued items together, helped with ideas, ran stores, and helped us pack things up!! What a great week in 2nd grade! We have been working hard on our Conference packets and getting ready for meeting with our parents. What a blessing to see the students grow this year and it was so fun to see them share in the celebration of learning!
