Lots of Sunshine!

We had a fabulous time at our Reading Blizzard! We enjoyed lots of fun things and read a lot of books! Mrs. Dykstra was our mystery reader and we had pizza and cupcakes as treats! Thanks so much for letting me be a part of your child's life each day. It is a joy seeing them grow and change, and I find it hard to believe we are almost three fourths of the way through the year!   

HOMEWORK:

New homework will be sent home on Monday, Mar. 2 and is due back March 9th. I am sending home a double digit subtraction with regrouping paper. The kids have been working really hard on learning how to do this and could use a little more practice at home. Break it apart and do 3-4 problems a night or all at once. Whatever works best for your child.
New Memory work will be coming home on Monday. It will be our March verses.

*We will have a test on our 4th set of Red Words on Mar. 5. Please practice with your child this coming week on words that they may need extra practice with. We had some hard ones towards the end. Here is hte list in case you need them: also, were, only, whose, through, other, thought, always, once, its, though, won, against, move, because
*Make sure ALL library books come back next week please!


SPRING CONFERENCES: 
Conferences will be coming up at the end of March (March 26 & 30 from 4-8pm). 2nd grade takes a different twist on conferences in the Spring--they are actually STUDENT LED. This means that your son/daughter joins us in conversation, and he/she leads the conference. We work hard at creating a portfolio and collecting work samples, and it is an awesome experience for you to see how your child has taken ownership of his/her learning this year. This means that all 2nd grade conferences are in person. As teachers and parents, we are able to encourage and pour into your child, as well as find ways to challenge him/her for the last quarter of 2nd grade. This is a very important time together, and you'll want to save the date. Look for a link to be coming soon for sign ups!


Spring Concert
The elementary students Y5-5th grade  at South Side, Pine Ridge, and Forest School will be performing at our Spring concert on Mar. 12. Please mark this date on your calendar! 

  • Young 5s through 5th grade students should arrive between 6:00-6:15. They will meet with their teachers in the lobby. Families will head into the sanctuary to be seated by 6:20. 

  • Preschoolers should arrive with their families and be seated in the sanctuary by 6:20. They will be called up to the stage to sing part way into the program.


Lost and Found

The office is continuing to update our South Side Lost and Found Album as items come into the gray tub in the office. Please check it out to see if any of these items belong to your child. Feel free to email Rachel Steen, to claim your item(s), and we will be sure to get it into your child’s backpack.

Kid Town in the Gym

Happy Friday! What a fantastic week we have had in second grade! Kid Town has been a success and the students have enjoyed it immensely! We have seen wonderful examples of generous spirits and students who are polite and caring business boys/girls, and they have also been wonderful shoppers with a lot of patience. They have had a ton of fun learning about businesses and economics! Thanks so much to all the parent helpers who came in and were a banker so kids could get paid, glued items together, helped with ideas, ran stores, and helped us pack things up!! What a great week in 2nd grade! We have been working hard on our Conference packets and getting ready for meeting with our parents. What a blessing to see the students grow this year and it was so fun to see them share in the celebration of learning! Homework: Monday, March 24  a new reading slip and math homework page will come home and be due- March 31.  *Matthew 28.
