Valentine's Day

We had a fun week in 2nd grade! We had a fun Valentine's Party! What great a day to share with our friends and classmates in 2nd grade! We have so much to be thankful for and the goodness and love God showers on us is amazing! God's faithfulness is evident each and every day! It's such a blessing to see the kids grow in their faith each day and know they love Jesus! Thank you for your faithfulness in making Christian education a priority for your family! It is an honor to teach your son/daughter each day!  

HOMEWORK:

New homework will be sent home on Tuesday, Feb. 17 and is due back the 23rd. We have switched to Subtraction Facts for our Math Homework.
Psalm 121 has been sent home. Please use for devotions this month.
*New words of the week will be coming home in the Homework Folder on Monday. Sorry for the mix up, I sent home 4 rows of words last week. The paper with 3 rows is coming home on Monday. Please work on words your child may need extra practice with. Looking ahead we will have a test in a couple of weeks.
*Make sure ALL library books come back next week please!


Reading Blizzard:
The 2nd graders love to celebrate reading! One way that we will do that this year is by having a "READING BLIZZARD" during the school day on Tuesday, February 24 . The students will come to school in their pajamas, and they may also bring a pillow, blanket, and a stuffed animal. We will spend a large part of the day reading, hearing stories from a special guest, enjoying pizza together, and doing a variety of other fun reading/blizzard themed things!

Donuts at Dawn
Parent board invites you to come to school for Donuts at Dawn. Students are invited to bring one parent or special adult for a donut treat and a scavenger hunt challenge around the school. Younger siblings are also welcome to come.
Preschool: Thursday February 26 from 8:00-8:30.
Y5-2nd grade: Friday February 27 from 7:50-8:30
*On Friday families are also invited to stay for Friday Praise from 8:35-9:05. 

Outdoor Discovery Center:
The 2nd graders will be heading to the ODC on the 27th of Feb. We will enjoy some time together exploring outside and seeing the animals. We will be  there in the morning so please dress for the weather! We will be back in time for lunch.

SPRING CONFERENCES: 
Conferences will be coming up at the end of March (March 26 & 30 from 4-8pm). 2nd grade takes a different twist on conferences in the Spring--they are actually STUDENT LED. This means that your son/daughter joins us in conversation, and he/she leads the conference. We work hard at creating a portfolio and collecting work samples, and it is an awesome experience for you to see how your child has taken ownership of his/her learning this year. This means that all 2nd grade conferences are in person. As teachers and parents, we are able to encourage and pour into your child, as well as find ways to challenge him/her for the last quarter of 2nd grade. This is a very important time together, and you'll want to save the date. Look for a link to be coming soon for sign ups!


Wacky Wednesdays
The Parent Board has some fun Wacky Wednesdays planned to spruce up our winter Wednesdays at South Side and Pine Ridge! Here is the schedule:

  • February 4: Pajama Day
  • February 11: Sports Day (Clothing and hats only; no equipment please)
  • February 18: Hawaiian Day 
  • February 25: Backwards Day 

The Winning Class for each week (highest % participation) will win a voucher for a hot chocolate party on a date that works for the class.

Spring Concert
The elementary students Y5-5th grade  at South Side, Pine Ridge, and Forest School will be performing at our Spring concert on Mar. 12. Please mark this date on your calendar! More details to come later!

Lost and Found

The office is continuing to update our South Side Lost and Found Album as items come into the gray tub in the office. Please check it out to see if any of these items belong to your child. Feel free to email Rachel Steen, to claim your item(s), and we will be sure to get it into your child’s backpack.

Thank you!  I am so thankful for your love and support during this year! Your encouragement has blessed me so much...thank you. Thanks too, for entrusting your children under my care...they have been a joy to teach! This will be the last blog update for the school year! We will have a special end of the year Chapel to send off our 2nd graders on the last day of school, Wednesday, June 4. Come gather with us from 10:25-11:15am for a time of worship together. Kid Town in the Gym

Happy Friday! What a fantastic week we have had in second grade! Kid Town has been a success and the students have enjoyed it immensely! We have seen wonderful examples of generous spirits and students who are polite and caring business boys/girls, and they have also been wonderful shoppers with a lot of patience. They have had a ton of fun learning about businesses and economics! Thanks so much to all the parent helpers who came in and were a banker so kids could get paid, glued items together, helped with ideas, ran stores, and helped us pack things up!! What a great week in 2nd grade! We have been working hard on our Conference packets and getting ready for meeting with our parents. What a blessing to see the students grow this year and it was so fun to see them share in the celebration of learning! Homework: Monday, March 24  a new reading slip and math homework page will come home and be due- March 31.  *Matthew 28.
