Happy Friday! How are we in the final stretch of school, approaching our last 12 days together? We still have lots of fun things to pack into our time together. God is SO good--we have SO much to celebrate! We have lots of fun end of year things going on in the next couple of weeks!

Homework:

We are all done for the year!

Keep using Galatians 5 for a devotion this month!

I have a summer packet that will be coming home that last week of school. Feel free to use it to keep up on skills your child may need to practice. Consider a tutor if your child has struggled in math or reading this year, or if they need to keep up on skills! When I have a link for available tutors i will send it out!

Make sure all library books are returned! We need to have them inventoried and then ready to pack for the big move!

Students should bring a large shopping bag by June 1, as we will clean out our desks and lockers and send home a lot of our stuff. We will keep a pencil box and a couple of things for the day on Tuesday June 2.

Moving Up Day:

Monday, June 1 will be a special day in 2nd grade. It's MOVING UP DAY! This means that your child will get an opportunity to visit Pine Ridge, meet next year's 3rd grade teacher, and go on a school tour. This has always been a great experience in the past, and it helps settle the nervous butterflies that students may have about the changes to a new building. I'm sure you'll hear lots of great stories about the students' visit!

End of Year Field Trip:

Our class will be going to Dutch Village as a part of our Social Studies Unit on Holland history and as our end of year field trip. We will head to Dutch Village for a tour, Dutch dancing, and some free time in the park. Students should wear good walking shoes and dress for the weather. Students will need a sack/home lunch as well. We could use a few parents to go along on our trip. Parents will have to pay the park fee of $13 to go along. Sign up below if you are able to come with us! Turn in your money by May 20!

Beach Day:

Y5-2nd graders are going to be gathering together at Tunnel park on Wednesday, May 27. Your child will need a sack lunch and a beach bucket for sand castle making for this day. We are planning to stop at Captain Sundae on the way back. (I'm so excited for this!). The kids can choose between chocolate, vanilla, or twist soft serve in a cup. I will mark down their choice here at school. It costs $3. Please send this money to school by Wednesday, May 20.

FIELD DAY:

Field day this year is going to be held on the afternoon of May 29. Please send along a water bottle for your child, dress for the weather, slather on sunscreen, and pray for a nice day!

End of Year Chapel and Groundbreaking:

Save the date! We will have a special end of the year Chapel to send off our 2nd graders on the last day of school,  and celebrate the groundbreaking of the South Side Renovation Wednesday, June 3. Come gather with us from 10:15-11:15am for a time of worship together. We’ll be out on the playground, so bring a lawn chair if you’d like (if there’s rain we’ll move it to the gym).  After chapel, all students will be dismissed and there will be a time for refreshments on the playground.

Renovation, Next Year, and Help Needed
We are getting so excited for our renovation project next year at South Side. In preparation, we are packing up the building and getting ready to move to a temporary location during construction. Read all about the renovation and our temporary location here.
Many families have asked how they can help. We will need a lot of volunteers to make this transition successful. Please check out our Moving South Side Sign Up for opportunities to help!

End of the Year Chapel and Groundbreaking Ceremony
Come join us! We will have a special end-of-the-year chapel on Wednesday June 3 from 10:15-11:15. We will be sending off our 2nd graders and celebrating/praying for the soon to start construction project at South Side. We’ll be out on the playground, so bring a lawn chair if you’d like (if there’s rain we’ll move it to the gym). After chapel, students will be dismissed and there will be refreshments on the playground your family can stay to enjoy.
