Our class had a wonderful week! We have been so blessed to be together these first few weeks of school! The students are getting the routines and enjoy being together with their classmates. We have lots going on in each subject area, and have enjoyed learning about God and learning about how to live a life full of wisdom from James in Bible.

BIBLE MEMORY:
*We are continuing to practice Psalm 8, and we are up to knowing verses 1-3 somewhat well. Please continue to practice this at home.

HOMEWORK:
*Your child's first reading slip and math homework page are coming home in your child's Homework Folder, on Monday the 12th.
Inside will be...
- A Math worksheet that will be due on Monday, Sept. 19. Please remember to time your child on each half of the page and write their total correct in the side column.

- A Reading Minutes sheet that will be due on Monday, Sept. 19. Remember the goal is 100 minutes. This can be your child reading on his/her own OR you and your child taking turns.

-A blue half sheet that has our first 3 sight words to work on for 2nd grade. Please practice these if your child doesn't know how to spell them. The words will be: things, school, walk

Words of the Week:

*Our 2nd Grade words we'll be focusing on reading/writing this coming week are: things, school, walk

We will add on 3 words each week, and when we get to 15 words we'll have a spelling test on those 15 words. Look for a blue half sheet coming home in your child's Homework Folder on Monday, for your fridge.
These words make up the 2nd grade sight word list that students should be able to read & write by the end of 2nd grade.

WALK-A-THON:
We will have the Walk-a-Thon on Wednesday, Sept. 28. Everyone in the class gets to participate, regardless of how much they raise. The parent team is ordering T-shirts and will have them available for the students to change into at school the day of our Walk-a-Thon. Parents are welcome to cheer kids on as they walk!  There will be fun prizes, and the class who raises the most money will get a pizza party! Most of all, thanks for supporting our school--the funds raised always go to enhance classroom learning and it is such a blessing! Packets are due Monday, September 21!

SCHOOL PICTURES:
*Picture order forms are coming home today, and they are due by Wednesday, Sept 14. If you have multiple kiddos at HC, be sure to keep track of the pre-printed names on the order forms. Picture Day will be Wednesday, Sept. 21. IF YOU WANT A YEARBOOK, NOW IS THE PERFECT TIME TO ORDER IT! We need you to return the picture order forms even if you aren't ordering anything, and even if you are ordering online, as our photo company needs the paperwork for each student. Thanks!

Jungle Explorer of the Week:
We will start with our first Jungle Explorer next week! I will send home and note to let you know what to do along with your child's poster to decorate and the Guessing Jar to fill. So excited to learn more about each of our students! The students had fun learning more about Mrs. Dreyer and Mrs. Schupe these last couple of weeks.

Aug. 26, 2022

We flew through our first week! Your child is learning the daily routines and settling in nicely! It feels great to have the classroom buzzing with excitement, curiosity, and eagerness to learn new things about our great God and the world he has placed us in! Thank you for sharing your child with me each day! We are going to try to keep this entry short and sweet with a few important things for you to note.

Streams of Living Water:

Our theme for this year is Streams of  Living Water. We have been talking about our theme and how we as a class can live this out together this year. Mrs. Wyma talked to us during chapel on Wednesday about our theme. God fills us up with his Living Water.  We can be a refreshing light in our world and share this life giving water with those around us.

Bible Memory:

Our first chapel of the year!
With September approaching, we will be practicing Psalm 8, our September Bible Memory. A
copy for your fridge will come home today. :) Please try to practice this at home. Remember that we will recite this together various ways at school, but it would be great to have the practice at home as well. This passage is being done K-12 to create a passionate commitment to faith and development of the whole school body.

Batons:
Please make sure to return your child's Baton to school by Sept. 1.

Homework:
We are all busy settling in to new routines, from school to soccer practices, etc. so we will ease into the year together. We recognize that families are busy with Labor Day weekend plans as well, so we'll start Reading and Math Homework after Labor Day.

Shoes:
Please try to remember to have your child have BOTH indoor and outdoor shoes. We are giving grace this first week but we do need to make this a priority! Thank you!

*THANK YOU for your love, prayers, and support as we begin this new school year together! I am so blessed to spend each day with your child!

Important Dates:
Aug. 29: Return Friday Folders
Aug. 31: Convocation
Sept. 1: Batons due back to school
