Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas 2nd Grade Families! What an amazing week we've had together! We had a sweet chapel from the preschoolers and we have been finishing up some big projects in Writing and finished a math unit.  We also had lots of laughter and fun at our class Christmas Party! Thank you to Lindsey Brower, Kristin Essenburgh, and Abby Harris for planning some super fun things for our class Christmas party! The boys and girls are so excited to tell you all about all our adventures this week! Look for some pictures at the end of things we did this week!

Homework:

No homework due! We will start up after break!

Library books are due on Jan. 8 Please make sure all books are returned after break!

The kids cleaned out their lockers, and their beach towels and maybe some missing sweatshirts and other items may be coming home! 

Jungle Explorer:

Anna was our special Jungle Explorer of the Week! Thanks for sharing your poster and pictures with our class. We enjoyed getting to know you and learning that you like playing with Jay and reading. We love that you want to be a baby sitter when you grow up! Your favorite place is Home and your favorite food is kebobs. You are so special to God and to us, Anna, and we loved getting to know more about you this week!

I pray that you will have a blessed time with your family this Christmas. Stay safe, and make lots of fun memories together! Take time to rest, be still, and celebrate the birth of our Savior! I have thoroughly enjoyed journeying through our Christmas devotions with your child as we have been waiting for the arrival of our Savior. 

Thank you for the ways you've blessed me in 2024--for your love, support, prayers, Christmas gifts, emails, and most of all for entrusting your 2nd grader under my care each day. It's been a great year, and our God is so faithful! I look forward to what God has in store for us all in 2025!

Live Nativity

The most wonderful time of the year! It is, isn't it? We continue the hustle and bustle of all the things we need to get done at home and school, and it seems so crazy! We plan and plan and plan! God planned thousands of years in advance to make sure the wise men would see Jesus' star and find him, He planned thousands of years for Mary to bear a son. He has planned years in advance for his coming and the perfect timing of his return. God's timing is always better than outs. We continue to wait with anticipation for His coming again!

Homework:

Next week no new Homework. We will start up after break.

Current*Purple Reading Slip and Math homework will be due Monday, December 16.

*Library books are due Wednesday.

Adam was our special Jungle Explorer of the Week! Thanks for sharing your poster and

Your favorite place is Home and your favorite food is cookies. You are so special to God and to us, Adam, and we loved getting to know more about you this week!

Class Christmas Party:

Our class Christmas party will be Thursday(Dec. 19) before break. 

Please have your child bring in his/her "boy" or "girl" gift on Thursday, December 19. We ask that each boy come with one wrapped "To: A boy, From: _______" labeled gift, and each girl come with one wrapped "To: A girl, from _______" labeled gift. These will be used as a part of games and activities at the class Christmas party. Please limit the value of these gifts to $3-$5 only. Even though you may be able to find a great deal on a higher priced item for only $3-$5, it helps us avoid some difficulty if the value of each item is actually within the range that is set.. It is not a requirement to participate in the gift exchange part of the party if you would rather not participate.

Lost & Found

Our South Side lost & found items are in a gray tub in the office. If you are missing anything, please stop in and take a peek, or check out our South Side Lost and Found Photo Album before Christmas break, as we will be donating the remaining items.

Mrs. Winningham is an HC teacher who is putting memory verses to music. Some of our elementary classes at South Side have been using these songs already this year. Advent

Christmas isn't about "hoping" for certain gifts and presents, but about a promised hope in our Savior. Our God always keeps His promises, and He is faithful! What a comfort that is! As a class we are taking time to slow down, and to reflect on God's goodness and faithfulness.  We have started to work through Sing, Move, and Memorize for Luke 2. The kids will learn some sign language and the verses through music. Check out a few pictures at the end of our Christmas Tree day!

Christmas Around the World:

Dec. 10- Christmas Around the World Day- We will read about 5 countries and how they celebrate Christmas and make a craft to go along with the reading to remember each country. We will be in the gym all morning and move in stations. I could use at least one more parent to help out with this day if you are able. Check out the sign up genius to sign up!

Critter Barn Field Trip:

Field Trip to the Critter Barn on Dec. 13 to see the Live Nativity. We will be going after lunch and please dress for the weather!

Give Thanks!

Heaven. God. Stars. Family. Bible. Jesus. Friends. Teachers. A warm house. Sunsets. My grandparents. My dog. My Mom. My Dad. School. The beach. The sun. Snow. Fall. Leaves.  

These are a few of the things that have spilled out of your child's heart as we have been reflecting on having a thankful heart over the last few days in our Gratitude Journals. God is SO good, isn't He?! It is truly a blessing having the opportunity to partner with you each day. Thanks for your love, support, and prayers for our classroom. I am thankful for YOU, for your investment in sending your child to HC each day, and for partnering with me to help your little grow to know and love Jesus.

Children's Advocacy Center:

The CAC is coming on Dec. 5 to talk with our students about how to be safe with our bodies and strangers. There was a peach colored sheet inyour child's Friday Folder last week explaining more about this.

Book Orders:

A book order flyer is coming home today. Check it out if you would like to order some books for your child. Orders are due by Dec. 4! Thanks! Let me know if it is a gift and I will hold it for you!

Had some visitors on the playground today working. The kids thought it was so cool!

Another great week in second grade! We are celebrating our study of the Lord's Prayer with musical activities this week! It's been fun seeing the growth and understanding of the Lord's Prayer and how this is helping each student know God more!

We recognized Veterans Day, learned about this day, and why we remember and honor those who served and those currently serving! Thank you for your service!

Prayer

We have been studying the Lord's Prayer in Bible class this week and it's been such a gift to be able to talk to the students about prayer and why we pray.  We've also been learning about what the Lord's Prayer means, and what those words mean when we pray them, and how Jesus teaches us to pray. What a blessing and comfort we have in these words from our Lord! We are all so thankful to be at a Christian School where our faith in Jesus grows deeper each day as we learn more about Him through His Word!
